The temperature is turning cooler, the days are getting shorter, and Autumn is officially here. It’s the perfect time of year to be cuddling up on the weekends or in the evenings with a good book and a cup of something warm to drink. So send the husband off to a weekend football game at Stanford or Humboldt State. Send the kids to visit your sister in Redding or Seaside and enjoy the escape a good book provides.
Being released in large print in October are some fantastic new Christian fiction titles by long-time favorite authors and soon-to-be favorite authors. And large print books aren’t just for those that ‘need glasses.’ Sometimes reading a larger print can prevent developing a headache for avid readers.
A gripping medical suspense thriller, from suspense favorite and Bay Area resident Brandilyn Collins, is titled Over the Edge. This fast-paced mystery is about Lyme Disease, pharmaceutical research, and power; it’s set at Standford Medical Center. Over the Edge was also recently reviewed in this column.

Love By the Book from Cara Lynn James is the story of Melinda Hollister and her plans to find a wealthy husband before her high society friends realize her riches are evaporating like water. Even though Nick Bryson and Melinda have a familial connection – their siblings are married to one another – they rarely give each other the time of day. However, when circumstances beyond their control force them to deal with one another, they realize each other may be all they’ve got.
Set in Alaska among the backdrop of sled dogs and sled dog races is Fire and Ice by Susan Page Davis. Robyn Holland raises and trains sled dogs, but her grandfather’s accident may force her to sell the family business to pay hospital bills. Just when things are looking better thanks to the assistance of veterinarian Rick Baker, some of her prize sled dogs are stolen. Will they be able to find her dogs in time for the Fire and Ice dog sled race?
