I recently interviewed Michael McNally- Brand Relations Director at LEGO Systems, Inc. about the HEROICA line of fantasy-themed LEGO board games. HEROICA is a fantasy-themed board game series from LEGO in which each title can be played individually, while multiple titles can be combined into a larger game.
Michael Tresca (MT): What audience is HEROICA for?
Michael McNally (MN): HEROICA is targeted towards families and children ages 7+ who are ready for a build-and-play adventure game.
MT: How many players can play HEROICA?
MN: 2-4 players
MT: How are the LEGO building elements incorporated into the game of HEROICA?
MN: As with all of our LEGO Games, HEROICA is a build-and-play adventure. Before you begin gameplay you build the playing field and LEGO Dice using the included LEGO elements. Each of the HEROICA games can be played separately, or combined, to create the ultimate LEGO adventure game experience.
MT: HEROICA dice is customizable. How does this customizability feature in the game?
MN: The LEGO Dice can be customized by symbol placement; gameplay can therefore be refreshed by how you place the dice tiles.
MT: There’s been a real struggle to bridge the gap between board games and tabletop role-playing games. Do you see HEROICA as an opportunity for players to expand their gaming horizons?
MN: Yes. What differentiates the entire LEGO Games collection from other more traditional board games, is the idea that it’s customizable and expands players’ imaginations.
MT: How do the various HEROICA games work together?
MN: With all LEGO Games, players can choose to build their game based on the instructions provided, or create an entirely new game. HEROICA takes it one step further, by allowing players to not just use the building elements provided in each individual game but use elements found from other HEROICA games to create an entirely new game. All elements in every HEROICA game can be combined in any way to create a whole new adventure.
MT: Where can we buy HEROICA?
MN: All LEGO Brand Retail Stores, LEGO.com, Toys R ‘Us, Walmart, and Target.
MT: Where can we learn more?
MN: By visiting http://www.lego.com/legogames or our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LEGOGames.
