Belfast, U.K. – Judge Derek Rodgers has denied an appeal to spare an incarcerated dog from death.
The ruling is a devastating blow to Lennox’s guardians, and thousands of supporters from across the world.
Lennox was seized from his family in May, 2010 because he looked to be “a Pit bull” type of dog.
Lennox had been with his family since he was a puppy – he was neutered, licensed and microchipped at the time that he was seized by authorities.
Despite petitions, letters and numerous appeals to spare Lennox, Judge Rodgers is upholding the initial ruling to kill Lennox – telling those in the court that the dog is a threat to public safety.
Judge Rodgers claims that Lennox, now 6 years of age, is a threat to his family and to the public at large because of attacks on the dog warden and a former police dog handler who examined him.
Lennox’s owner, Caroline Barnes, was apparently too upset after the verdict to make a comment.
According to BBC News, those fighting for Lennox’s life have 21 days to file an appeal.
Sadly, it appears that the courts have chosen to make an example out of Lennox – perhaps in an attempt to squelch the efforts of other “Pit bull type” owners who have had their dogs seized as well.
