Silversea impresses even before you step foot on one of their spiffy ships…..
Our documents just arrived by FedEx, handsomely packaged and about as thorough as it gets. But then they came from Silversea Cruises, a company that knows how to do things right. The arrival of the official ticketing package means, ugh, having to pack, a procedure I hate worse than liver.
No stranger to Silversea www, silversea, com, we’ve sailed several seas with them from Europe to Asia, I know the dress drill. By day the rule is casual, night’s are dressier with many of its well-heeled (and I do mean well-shod, some of the shoes cost more than the cruise, well alittle exageration here), done up to the nines even when the dress code is informal (which means country club chic). Formal’s another matter with most men donnong tuxedos and women wearing the works from lavish gowns to designer cocktail dresses.
Beside the accepted outfits for the gourmet meals served leisurely in courses by a handsomely-attired wait staffed in gorgeous venues with exquisite China, crystal and silveware, I must pack bathing suits, cover ups, shorts and slacks for shore, cosmetics (which often weigh more than I do, or says my first mate, husband Richard). Well I am also a beauty writer for knotmove.com and other publications, and I know the importance of cleanser, scrubs, toners, moisturizers, serums, and sunscreens and they all come with.
Silversea, bless their corporate hearts, do provide top quality shampoos, conditioners, soaps, robes, slippers, binoculars, umbrella, alarm clock, with iPod docking station and other luxury amenities. They even offer a choice of pillows. The all-inclusive fare always includes all adult beverages (spirits, wines and beer) but I wouldn’t pack those anyway.
We’ll be flying from Los Angeles to Lisbon (with a plane change in Paris) on Air France in Business Class–we paid for an upgrade especially with the carriers newly added luxurious seats and privileges that go with the extra bucks. Just check out the cabin: http://www.airfrance.us/US/en/common/guidevoyageur/classeetconfort/affaires_confort_airfrance.htm
In Lisbon Silversea puts up air/hotel/sea passengers up in the 5 Star Tiera Park Atlantic Hotel http://www.tiara-hotels.com/hotel.asp?id_hotel=7–which looks amazing on the web. But we’ll only be there are a few hours before boarding the spiffy Silver Spirit for our dreamy voyage. Be sure to come back to read all about it.
Now folks it’s time to pack my bags.
