Gary Steman has never been afraid of a challenge, so when his passion called him, he responded in a big way and is now making his living sharing his inspiring vision of the world around him.
As the owner of Steman Shots Photography, Gary’s one of a kind awe-inspiring photographs come from his heart. “I love to share my vision of the beauty around us,” he says.
And as a place for friends, family, community and a great cup of coffee, this venture is part of Caffe Crema’s vision to support their local community.
“We want the South Calgary community to discover the gems in our own backyard: friendly people, great coffee, impressive artistic and musical talent and fun family events,” says owner Jeff Halldorson. “We want you to discover all the things we love, at Caffe Crema.
In their joint venture, a collection of Gary’s photography art can be found on display on the wall of the coffee shop that has done an outstanding job of creating an atmosphere that is both relaxing and inviting.
Gary started his working career in the oil industry, and after many volatile years of oil booms and busts, he drew on his ability to take chances and, following a new calling, embarked on a career in sales. This seemed to be a natural move for Gary, who became very successful in a career that let him use his genuine interest in people to make a living.
Combining Passion and Career Has Been Very Rewarding
All this time, photography was his passion; he enjoyed his hobby that filled his free time around his “real” job. Then two years ago, he began bridging the gap between making a living and doing what he loved the most.
“A person can make a living doing their passion. Not a new concept but one I was finally ready to listen to,” Gary says.
Realizing The Tools That Were Already Available Changed Everything
Armed with a focused interest in photography, and the sales skills the past few years in this industry provided him Gary’s journey began with hands-on experience. He bought himself a camera and started shooting everything that caught his eye; from interesting perspectives of manmade structures to the beauty of natural landscapes and wildlife.
Once he had some valuable experience and a collection of beautiful art photos under his belt, the next step was to enroll in the New York Institute of Photography where he completed the degree program.
Love for People has been the Key to Success for Photographer
Since then, Gary has not looked back. He continues to sell his one of a kind awe inspiring photographs and admits that half the fun of his job is getting the shots. “The best day is spent hiking to some of the most beautiful places to capture the perfect shot. That’s the best part of getting to do this for a living,” he says.
