Los Angeles weather is barely making a fall statement, but the new fall and winter Hollywood Pairings Menu at Lola’s Restaurant and Martini Bar in West Hollywood certainly is. I recently had the pleasure of attending an exclusive preview of the newly premiered menu that also features specialty martini pairings.
Eight new items make up the carte along with eight buzz-worthy libations. Carefully crafted by Loren “Lola” Dunsworth and Executive Chef Reagan Moore, the cuisine features an eclectic mix of classics including bacon wrapped salmon, Asian vegetable stir-fry, chimi-churi arctic char, grilled pacific swordfish, grilled pork chop, parmesan crusted halibut, grilled choice 10 ounce NY steak and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.
Comfort-food-feel meets gourmet-taste with these delicious options and indulging is highly encouraged. I recommend the NY steak, which is served with a rich béarnaise or cabernet demi-glaze, smashed Yukon potatoes, melt-in-your-mouth mushroom bread pudding and crispy grilled asparagus. The grilled pork chop, served with mashed potatoes, sautéed broccoli and savory pancetta-sage gravy is another must. For vegetarians, the stir-fry is satisfying and filled with fresh veggies that are seasoned perfectly. If you are a seafood lover, there are plenty of appetizing options to choose from.
The best martinis from the revamped cocktail menu? It’s almost impossible to narrow it down, but my favorites include: The Ambassador, a sweet refreshing blend of spiced rum, lime, coconut water and orgeat syrup; The Chateau Marmont, a sexy take on a jalepeno margarita with fresh strawberry; The BHH, made with vodka, nigori sake, ginger liqueur, yuzu juice and fresh mint; and for dessert, The Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Martini, which I can only describe in one word… mouthwatering!
Iconic Los Angeles landmark hotels inspired the cocktail pairings, created by Lola’s mixologist David Shoham and special guest master mixologist Brad Stanton. A special featured addition, the Hotel Georgia cocktail, a frothy, but light martini, pays tribute to Dunsworth’s Canadian roots and was created by Hawksworth Restaurant’s Stanton.
“Brad Stanton is one of the most creative mixologists I’ve ever known,” said Dunsworth. “His libations are truly ingenious.”
Stanton’s excitement and passion for the science of cocktails shines through in each of his creations.
“It’s an honor to have been invited to consult for such an iconic Hollywood hotspot. With the help of Lola’s house mixologist David Shoham, we developed six new specialty cocktails that push the level of creativity behind the bar,” said Stanton. “We hope that guests enjoy the new and vibrant cocktails as much as we do!”
Lola’s fall & winter Hollywood Pairings Menu will run from September 2011 through February 2012.
