The State Fair of Louisiana opened yesterday and runs through November 13. The first day opened to drizzling rain, but the weekend and into next week will bring perfect weather for fair goers. This year’s theme, “A Fair To Remember” marks its 105th year of providing entertainment and agricultural exhibits to the state, region and local area. The State Fair of Louisiana is situated on approximately 157 acres and is located just off Interstate 20, with access from Jewella and Hearne Avenues. The traditional funnel cakes and corn dogs will be available, as well as some new fare that includes fried kool-aid, fried watermelon, and red velvet funnel cakes. There will be the traditional rides, food, livestock, zoo and free shows, and tonight the Shreveport Classic college football match up will be played at Independence Stadium. The game features The Jackson State University Tigers in a game against the Prairie View A&M University Panthers. Kick off time is 4 pm and will be followed by a free comedy act by the nationally renowned Lee Marvin Adams at 7 pm and a free concert by Lakeside at 8 pm. Your $25 game ticket gets you into the game, entry into the state fair, and admission to the comedy act and concert.
Free shows and attractions this year include The Bubble Show, Dallas the Fire Guy, The Great American Duck Race, the magic of George Gilbert, Nicktorious the Escape Artist, the Paul Bunyon Lumberjack Show, the Ultimate Safari, Rock It Robot, and more.
