Macon Purrs N Paws has taken in dozens of cats and dogs since receiving its non-profit, 501(c)(3) status earlier this year. With the help of volunteers and foster homes, the rescue maintains a spacious cattery and funds spay/neuter surgery, food and other veterinary care for all of the animals, including those in foster care.
Their original home base was in need of more repairs than the rescue could manage on its own, so they recently moved into a new, more modern space with room for keeping kittens and cats isolated until they are vetted and can be moved into the general cat population. The new cattery has lots of space for the kitties to run around in and plenty of room to lounge, climb and play hide-and-seek.
Moving has been expensive, however, and Macon Purrs N Paws is looking for both short- and long-term sponsors to help pay the high rent and other expenses. Like all rescues, Macon Purrs N Paws receives no money from the government to help with operating expenses; they rely solely on donations from the public. Adoption fees rarely cover even a majority of the money the rescue spends to spay or neuter each pet, pay for cat litter, dog and cat food, and routine medical care.
The rescue also took in Courage, the starved pitbull picked up by Macon Animal Control, and have continuing medical expenses for the care he needs to make a complete recovery. (Courage is in boarding, now, and desperately needs an adoptive home without teenagers or cats where he can finish getting well and become part of a real family.)
Donations to Macon Purrs N Paws are tax deductible, and if you donate before the end of the year, you can deduct the donation on your income tax.
While the rescue would love to have donors pledge even a small amount every month to help with ongoing expenses, one-time donations are welcomed.
“The homeless, unwanted and forgotten pets come from the community, so support for rescue groups that try to cope with the problem should also come from the community,” said Anne Brennaman of Macon Purrs N Paws.
