Wizards of the Coast, makers of the wildy popular trading card game Magic: the Gathering, were out in full force last weekend at PAX Prime promoting Duels of the Planeswalkers and their newest upcoming expert Magic expansion set Innistrad. However attendees needed to solve several puzzles in order to be able to attend an exclusive Magic: the Gathering party where previews from Innistrad were being shown.
Check out this video with highlights from the party.
While the new mechanic Morbid was recent news to some, the biggest revelation at the Magic Party at PAX Prime was double-sided Magic cards. Kruin Outlaw, Civilized Scholar, and Daybreak Ranger are just a few examples.
Innistrad was made top down, and cards like Creepy Doll and Wooden Stake illustrate this wonderfully.
A new five card enemy land cycle appears in Innistrad: Hinterland Harbor, Clifftop Retreat, Isolated Chapel, Sulfur Falls, and Woodland Cemetery.
There were many other Innistrad previews at the PAX Prime Magic Party: Diregaf Ghoul, Curse of the Bloody Tome, Ludevic’s Test Subject, Bloodgift Demon, and Elite Inquisitor are just a few.
This week we received some Love Letters, in addition to product images and two new planeswalkers: Liliana of the Veil and Garruk Relentless (a double-faced planeswalker!)
Several other recent Innistrad previews included Skirsdag High Priest, Stromkirk Noble, Fiend Hunter, Reaper from the Abyss, Curse of Death’s Hold, and Endless Ranks of the Dead
Four new cards from from Innistrad were revealed by Senior Director of Magic R&D Aaron Forsythe at Magic Weekend Philadelphia in a video with Brian David-Marshall. They are: Village Cannibals, Instigator Gang, Slayer of the Wicked, and Snapcaster Mage.
There are still another three weeks of Innistrad previews before players will have a chance to get their hands on it.
Innistrad contains 264 cards and will be released on September 30, 2011. Innistrad will be followed by Dark Ascension.
Innistrad Prerelease events will occur on September 24-25, 2011, there will be Innistrad Launch Parties on September 30-October 3, 2011, and Innistrad will be released on Magic Online October 17, 2011. The Innistrad Game Day will be on October 29-30, 2011.
