Last night, Hope Solo and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the Rumba to ‘Seasons of Love’ from the musical Rent on ‘Dancing with the Stars’. During rehearsals, Maks enlisted help from three of the dancers from the 2011 Troupe to help Hope become more dancer and less athlete and she did really well under their tutelage but it seems she resorted back to just going through the motions during the actual performance and the judges were not holding back on knit picking her dance moves.
Hope is putting in a lot of effort and trying really hard but all the criticism from the judges is starting to get to her and put her under heavy pressure to live up to their expectations. She wore flat lace up boots during her dance instead of heeled shoes and Len Goodman pointed out that, ‘The heels make you step on the ball of your foot and the one thing you mustn’t do is step on your heels.’
Although he said he has never lost faith in Hope, Len pulled no punches when he told her, ‘This is your worst dance of the season in my opinion.’ He got a shocked look on Hope’s face and plenty of boo’s from the audience for the statement. He then added, ‘I’m really disappointed.’
Len proceeded to tell Maks that half the fault was his which started to get a rise out of Maks saying, ‘As long as the audience like our journey , we’re good.’ He then gives the judges a piece of his mind and is upset by all the criticism for all of the stars.
Carrie Ann Inaba jumps in to defend the judges but Maks continues with ‘Everybody’s been putting in a lot of effort. Everybody on that balcony has been dying and killing themselves only to hear your guys little judgmental comments. You know what I mean?’ He also told them he is not being disrespectful but is protecting his partner. Bruno also had negative comments about the performance.
Hope told Brooke Burke that is has been incredibly difficult for her but that she felt good on the dance floor tonight.
After they received the scores from the judges, which combined was a total of 20, Maks had more to say. He said, ‘With all due respect, this is my show. I helped make it what it is. I love every aspect of it. Having said that, I’m a little tired that we’re being judged, some on effort, and some being picked on of heelies. That’s all I’m saying.’
