October 26, 2011 – Maksim Chmerkovskyi lashed out at fellow Dancing With the Stars pro-dancer Derek Hough for his comments.
During an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday, Maks was asked about the controversy he started Monday night after he argued with the judges. The outspoken dancer also questioned Derek’s comment that the judges had been generous this season.

“When you say judges have been generous,” Maks began, “with all due respect, if I had Nicole Scherzinger followed by Jennifer Grey followed by Ricki Lake, I probably would not be very upset with the judges either.”
Maks became angry at the judges, with Len Goodman in particular, because he feels the critiques of his celebrity partner, Hope Solo, are unnecessarily harsh. When Len said he knew what he was talking about because he had 50 years experience in the business, Maks suggested “maybe it’s time to get out!”

Then, when he was backstage, Maks was misunderstood when he referred to DWTS as “my show.” As his comments became big headlines that night and into the next day, Derek said he did not agree with Maks and that he went too far.
Maks, however, insists he has nothing to apologize for, and while he clarified his “my show” remark, and apologized for that, he says he will not suck up to the judges.

“I had a long conversation with my dad and I don’t regret anything. That’s why I’m misunderstood in this situation,” Maks explained to GMA host Robin Roberts, “Everyone is waiting for me to bow my head and plead for forgiveness. I have nothing to apologize for.”
The Ukrainian native also said that he does not appreciate the judges making rude comparisons with the dancers. “Why are judges allowed to compare us to animals and point their fingers and we can’t say we’re work and show our opinion?”

The animal comment was an indirect statement about judge Bruno Tonioli calling Chaz Bono a “cute little penguin” after he danced his last tango.
Ultimately, however, Maks loves being on Dancing and is grateful for being a part of it.
“I love the show, and am very lucky to have this second family,” Maks said, and then told Us Weekly that, “I am looking forward to next week’s dances and focusing on that with Hope at this time. I also want to thank our fans for being loyal and supportive.”
