Coverage of “The Avengers,” the latest installment in the Marvel universe, has been of almost superhero proportions. Interviews with director Joss Whedon, stars and other filmmaker. The cast’s appearance at Disney’s D23 Expo. Fan-leaked photos and footage. Internet speculations about the plot and story. It almost seems as if there is nothing more to say, or see, until the movie is released.
And then, Entertainment Weekly (EW) proves otherwise. On Sept. 29, the magazine released character headshots and promotional photos that accompany its story on “The Avengers.” It’s enough to make even the mildest fanboy or fangirl giddy.
To promote the Sept. 30 magazine, EW used the character headshots to present the Avengers team. And while all these photos are eye candy, EW’s conversations with Whedon and the cast provide tidbits on the production, from Whedon’s reworking of dialogue to the stars’ approach to their characters.

As part of its coverage of “The Avengers,” EW also released three photos of various members of the team. The first photo features Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in what might be a still from the film. A second photo shows Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) armed and ready for action.
A third photo provides a staged behind-the-scenes look at “The Avengers.” Director Whedon, with Downey, Evens and Chris Hemsworth, as Thor, relax between shots.
