Its day 18 of the Michael Jackson HLN 2011 trial, The People vs Dr. Conrad Murray. The date is Monday, October 24, 2011. You can find the trial on HLN tv, channgel 45 in Lafayette, Louisiana Cox Cable starting at 11:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. CST.
The Prosecution has done an excellent job of presenting their case against the defendant, Dr. Conrad Murray. He’s charged with “involuntary manslaughter.” In fact, the Prosecution has the case, the defense has no case. Thus, the reason why HLN tv allotted 17 days to the Prosecution and only 4 days to the defense. The defense should wrap up by Friday.
Highlights of the trial today are below.
Dr. Shafer finished up by testifying:
“No, if Michael Jackson would have reached up, seen the roller clamp and opened it himself, this is a feasible consequence of setting up an essentially dangerous way of giving drugs,” Dr. Shafer said, “It would still be considered abandonment.”
Alberto Alvarez called 911 at 12:18 p.m., when Dr. Conrad told him to. Alvarez described seeing the milky white fluid within the IV fluid bag.
Nurse Practictioner Cherily Lee also testified. She gave Michael Jackson mineral IV therapy for over 9 months in 2009. When Michael Jackson complained he still couldn’t sleep and the therapy wasn’t working, Cherily suggested he undergo a sleep study.
“But I don’t have time for that,” said Michael Jackson.
Dr. Allan Metzger also testified. Dr. Metzger was Michael Jackson’s personal physician for over 20 years. He attempted to help Michael Jackson sleep by prescribing Xanax, Klonopin and/or Trazodone (but are not to be used together). When asked if any amount of money would induce him to give Michael Jackson IV Propofol, Dr. Metzger testified:
“It would be dangerous, life threatening to give Propofol outside of a hospital.”
The most interesting comments were found on the HLN Facebook site from the fans.
“Ed Chernoff is struggling to defend their client.”
“Ed Chernoff didn’t lay a glove on Dr. Shafer.”
“Steven Shafer is the coolest nerd ever.”
“Dr. Shafer is ‘Marathon Man in a Box’.”
“Dr. Shafer deserves a fan club.”
“I don’t think there is any defense.”
Also, more information is coming to light concerning Dr. Shafer and Dr. Paul White. Apparently they were colleagues and friends for many years until the Michael Jackson trial which split them apart and has them feuding now. Dr. Shafer is Dr. Paul White’s protégée and past student. Dr. Paul White presently faces a “contempt of court” charge for calling Dr. Shafer a “scumbag.” Possibly Dr. White strongly disagrees with Dr. Shafer siding with the patient and against another Doctor. As mentioned in a previous article, Doctor’s strongly stick up for one another; however, in this case, obviously Dr. Shafer’s ethics, integrity, courage and honesty won out. Kudos to Dr. Shafer, we need more like him in every area of American life. Hopefully, the Doctors in this trial will be heros and not martyrs. What do you think, readers, will the Doctors testifying against Dr. Conrad end up being heros or martyrs?
Update: This Examiner quit following what happened to Dr. Murray after the trial due to developments. Basically, AEG Entertainment in all probability owned Dr. Murray and thus he was under their thumb in administering care to MJ. Like many of us citizens, Dr. Murray was trying to make a living. He was trying to please his patient and also AEG Entertainment. All health care personnel are under increasing pressures to deliver the best possible care, to please the patient, to please our employers and also to pay our bills. Sometimes we fail and I truly have compassion for Dr. Murray now as well as MJ.
