Iconic glam rocker Michael Monroe released his band’s latest album, Sensory Overdrive in the United States this week. Heavy on catchy guitar riffs and his signature cheeky yet aggressive lyrics, this album is a must-have for any fan of Rock music. Full of anthems and relentless Rock, this may just be the best album of the year.
Each band member’s influences–Hanoi Rocks, Wildhearts, Danzig, New York Dolls, Backyard Babies, et al–can clearly be heard on the album, yet this release stands on its own as a solid collection of music. The album starts of with a audio punch in the face with “Trick of the Wrist”. The first single, “’78” lauds sentiments of a 70’s vibe of simplicity and sincerity that often seems missing from today’s music scene. “Shut Up” is sure to be a crowd pleaser live, with its infectious chant. Lucinda Williams and Lemmy Kilmister make guest appearances on “Gone Baby Gone” and “Debauchery As A Fine Art” respectively, reflecting the albums wide range of sounds. Perhaps the most infectious song is “Got Blood?”, with its hard-driving guitars, thumping bass, and killer drums. And Michael Monroe never relents with his vocal attack–on this song, or any others.
Perhaps the only thing better than the Michael Monroe band’s Sensory Overdrive effort is the long-awaited U.S. tour supporting it. The band will make their way across America, starting today–from New York City to Hollywood. If they are not coming directly to your town, do yourself a favor and make the effort to travel to one of their shows. We can only hope this is the beginning of yet another chapter in the amazing career of Michael Monroe and more U.S. tours!
In Chicago, you can catch Michael Monroe at Reggie’s Rock Club on October 8th, with opening act The Last Vegas.
