Poor Mike…We knew when Mike agreed to move in with the Flynn women earlier in season 2 of Mike & Molly that he was one brave man. In the October 24, 2011 episode, Victoria Runs Away, just how brave he is becomes clear when certain challenges present themselves.
- Mike & Molly: Mike in the House
It all begins with Victoria bringing home the random man du jour and Molly’s very vocal opinion on the matter. This was only the first of an ongoing argument that would go on to include the entire family – with Mike very much caught in the middle.
Mike, just trying to be helpful, ends up having all the Flynn ladies upset with him at one time or another. Victoria mostly saw him as the one in her corner, but there was that whole pudding issue.

His issues with future mother-in-law, Joyce, could be attributed to chronic foot-in-mouth disease. Each woman shared certain confidences that Mike managed to reveal over the course of continued attempts to remove said foot from mouth. Joyce really went on the defensive in this episode. Typically she’s pretty laid back, but when she felt like Mike was questioning her parenting skills…The gloves came off.
“Hey, either add to the conversation or go wait in the garage with all the other tools.” –Joyce to Mike
It just goes to show that even when children reach adulthood, the parenting gig just keeps marching on. Which brings us to the quote of the night:
“Molly, give me a break, I’m tryin’ to get drunk here.” –Joyce
You can see why Molly might sometimes feel like she’s the parent in that household, but ultimately each of these women contributes their piece that makes this family work. Unfortunately for Mike he’s still learning how those dynamics work.
At the height of the argument when Victoria – hand on the door knob – declares it’s her time to make it on her own, Mike sneaks out of the house to meet up with Carl. Carl – in all his awesomely sassy glory – manages to be an incredible voice of reason and friend to Mike. “You’re also going to get to spend the rest of your life with the woman that you love. And yeah, there might be some ups and downs, but all in all, you’re one lucky man…So strap on your helmet, cover your nuts, and belly-crawl to the bedroom.”
Enter Mike’s return to the lioness’s den: imagine his surprise when he walks in on three happily giggling women. Make that three giggling women who are happy to see him and gleefully offering him Rice Krispie treats. He’s understandably perplexed, “What the hell kind of game are they playing?”
Ah Mike, sometimes it’s better just to roll with it.
