Atlanta Missoni knit fans, the Milan headquartered House of Missoni had a few surprises for their Missoni Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show at Milan Womenswear Fashion Week on 25 September 2011.
The visual medium of fashion design is so much better shown than talked about, especially when it comes to the knitted designs of Missoni, which are known for their colorful zigzags and stripes.
Next Spring 2012 will see Missoni through colorful sheer chiffons, adorned with tasseled embellishments, ethnic inspired designs pairing their knits with slim pajama style pants – a bit unusual for most European wardrobes but a mainstay in the Near East and the Indian Subcontinent, as well as a pronounced African and North African flair.
Missoni’s swimsuits are also very tropics inspired, a bit of frill here and there is evocative of the Spanish flamenco dancer, with matching cover-ups and the ever-present tassel necklaces.
There seemed to be a lot of color and textures as well as layering of garments in asymmetrical ways, with frills and tassels adding interest to the colorful outfits.
Even the choice of shoes on the Missoni models was very colorful and incorporated fabrics which were tied up in bows.
Designer Angela Missoni for her own outfit at the show, chose to wear a long black dress with a black and white shawl tied at the hips, but added another colorful turquoise piece to her black and white outfit when she got photographed with founders Ottavio Missoni and his wife Rosita.
Teresa Missoni wore a very pretty crocheted piece in navy, with lighter blues showing through, including a pretty turquoise.
Margherita Missoni wore another knitted piece in browns and greys, very low cut and pleated in interesting ways…
Patron Eugenie Niarchos seemed to be wearing a knitted piece as well in cream and blues, which she accessorized with a scallop shell disco bag, worn cross-body.
Japanese Vogue editor-at-large Anna Dello Russo was all bejeweled in cream skirt encrusted with multi-colored very realistic looking gems (probably the richest looking garment at the fashion show!), which she dressed down with an American-themed navy and white star pattern top. She accessorized with a bright golden yellow bag embellished with tassels, much like the Missoni tassels…
American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour wore a plaid dress in cobalt, red, pink and yellow, which she accessorized with rhinestone necklaces in pink gemstones.
