The St. Louis Rams (0-1) will take the field of Metlife Stadium, against the New York Giants (0-1) on the NFL’s biggest stage, Monday Night Football. The Rams will look to bounce back from a 31-13 loss at the hands of the Philidelphia Eagles, a game that saw Danny Amendola, Sam Bradford and Steven Jackson each get knocked out. The Giants will be battling back from a 28-14 downfall against the Washington Redskins.
St. Louis Rams injury report
Possible starting role changes: Sam Bradford has been listed as probable for tonights game and if he doesn’t play that could spell trouble for the Rams who are also without star runningback Steven Jackson and Danny Amendola. Amendola led the Rams in receptions last week alongside Cadillac Williams, both had five. Assuming Sam Bradford does not play the Rams will be starting A.J Feeley who has not started a game since 2007 when playing in place of an injured Donnovan McNabb against the New England Patriots where he threw for 345 yards 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in a 31-28 loss. Amendola’s injury leaves Greg Salas a rookie from Hawaii as the Rams Slot specialist. Steven Jackson being out means that the Rams will be relying on Cadillac Williams again who ran 19 times for 91 yards and had 5 receptions for 49 yards.
N.Y. Giants injury report
Possible starting role changes: The only player the Giants may be without for tonights game, that wasn’t last week, is stand-out receiver Hakeem Nicks. Nicks had 7 receptions for 122 yards in a losing effort against the Redskins last week. Nicks has proven to be Eli Manning’s favorite target after last season as they connected 79 times for 1052 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Giants will also be without both of their top defensive ends Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora.
St. Louis Rams Keys to victory
On offense the Rams will need to first hope that Bradford is good to go, and then take a tip from the Redskins and spread the ball around against the Giants defense while doing just enough on the ground to keep the defense honest. Defensively the Rams will need to keep Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs under wraps and get after Eli Manning, if they can pressure him early they could force him into some early mistakes and let the offense capitalize.
N.Y. Giants Keys to victory
On offense the Giants need to get Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs going early, and limit the St. Louis pass rush. The Eagles were able to limit the Rams pass rush just by having Michael Vick in the game, but Eli doesn’t provide that big of a scrambling threat and the Rams know that. If the Giants manage to get their running game going that will open some opportunites for Eli to get his receivers the ball. On defense the Giants will look to second year Jason Piere-Paul to get some pressure on Sam Bradford, if Piere-Paul can get a sack or two early he may rattle Bradford into making an errant throw resulting in a turnover.
The game will be a battle to the end but the Giants will ride the home crowd and win this game to improve to 1-1 due to the Rams injuries and Sam Bradford trying to make something happen late in the fourth resulting in an interception for the Giants setting up a game winning field goal from Lawrence Tynes. Final Score 20-17
