Monster has four hundred thousand flavors on the market – and unless it is something super duper special, it is hard to review all of their drinks because they are so similar to each other.
For example, they have two drinks that are not just almost identical, but is the same drink, minus a touch of calories, and a hipper label. I dare anyone to put an Absolutely Zero Monster and a Blue Monster next to each other and see if they can tell the difference. For a while I was not going to review this – because it is just so similar to the Blue one, but then I was asked to by loyal readers, and thought I should give it a go. After all, I do like Cheer over Tide and Gain, even though they are almost exactly the same product made by the same company in the same plant. I was hoping for something special – maybe these Hansens products would be wildly different – but this is nothing but a lame Monster energy drink clone put out by Monster. I found slight differences, but the only reason for coming out with this diet version of a diet drink is nothing but glutting the marketplace and making it harder for consumers.
You know, when Rockstar came out with a Low Carb version, it is a completely different formula and flavor than their Diet blend. You could really taste and feel the difference between them. That is not even close to the same thing here.
The one thing different about this from the monster is the cool new can this comes in – going for a shattered blue background and serif fonts, rather than the iconic black on blue. It is pretty enough – but what is the point?. There is still the obnoxious XTREME paragraph written by 50 year olds trying to appeal and write to 20 year olds. There is the same lack of caffeine and other dietary information.
It doesn’t matter – if you get into the Monster look, then you will be all about this can. People loyal to the brand will still collect the cans and the tabs and such – but for the rest of us it is just yet another one on the shelf.
Guess what – this comes out caramel coloring colored – and looks just like a Monster! It smells like a Low Carb Monster too! I guess if they come out with enough clones of their own product, it might drive off all the other clones.
Here is a difference than the original Blue can – this has LESS caffeine! According toEnergyfiend.com there is even less caffeine than in the rest of ther formulas. Why do something like that? They have a comarable energy blend of taurine, B vitamins et al, but a full 25mg less than their standard. And in a sixteen ounce drink, the difference is a big one. Even my son, who proudly wears a Monster branded hoodie in the summer, a Monster baseball cap and Monster glasses – he could not get excited by this bore of a drink.
