Litquake, the Mill Valley Film Festival, and Fleet Week: three hot San Francisco area events you can’t afford to miss.
On your Mark? Get ready: October is upon us and San Francisco explodes with the most entertaining options and awesome events.
See Jack. See Jane. Have fun at Litquake October 7-15
Jack Boulware and Jane Ganahl are the literary royalty who generously bestow upon San Francisco the most fun, novel, urbane, much anticipated literary event of the year. With over 850 authors reading, reciting and entertaining in bars, cathedrals, barbershops, hotels and libraries you’ll be amused, amazed and lucky to be there.Check it out.
Venues include San Francisco’s Make Out Room, Z space, the Beat Museum, Tosca, Book Passages and Booksmith – and a galaxy of other unusual and eclectic sites. In the past, events have been held at the seediest dive bar for Noir Lit, an elegant champagne bar for Chick Lit, and a majestic cathedral, atop Nob Hill, for a lineup of absolutely incredible poets.
The Elements of Style
Think of Litquake as Burning Man with clothes, no dust, no scorching temperatures… just art at the highest form replete with great verbs, nouns and applause. Plan, plot, and scheme your literary trek.
The Mill Valley Film Festival
Mill Valley is a quick drive over the bridge. The tiny town hosts the world-class film Festival, October 6-16, 2011. Last year, James Franco of 127 Hours the rock and hard place film, was the lauded star; this year Glenn Close (watch one season of Damages and you’ll immediately remember just how brilliant she is) will be feted.
Volunteer for the film festival and meet new people -legions of ladies volunteer -and floods of people attend the internationally-acclaimed event. It’s a “do not miss.” Plan your time wisely as the Mill Valley Film Festival dates conflict with Litquake.
Up in the air! Is it an Angel? San Francisco’s 2011 Fleet Week is on water, land and up in the air. October promises the Blue Angels buzzing the skies of the Bay Area. You hate them or you love them. That being said, expect one- million spectators to flock to the Bay Area to see the Blue Angels. Fleet Week dates stretch from October 6 – 11, 2011 with the Blue Angel air show scheduled for Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th.
