‘Love Crime’ ~ a mystery thriller with a few good twists
An executive (Kristin Scott Thomas) brings on a bright young woman (Ludivine Sagnier) as her assistant, and she takes delight in toying with the young woman’s innocence. But when the protégé’s ideas become tempting enough for the executive to pass one as her own, she underestimates the young assistant’s ambition and her determination for retribution.
Don’t let the fact that ‘Love Crime’ is in French deter you from experiencing a first rate thriller. The film starts with a slow and deliberate pace, taking its time to firmly establish each of the characters. As each of the characters become very likable, each in their own way, true personality traits rise to the surface and before one realizes it, we’re drawn into the world of high level business and the extremes that one will go to secure that all important deal.
Kristin Scott Thomas delivers another stellar performance in a French language film and Ludivine Sagnier as the young assistant more than aptly carries the second half of the movie as it centers on her retribution for the actions of the senior executive. To give any more of the details of the film would indeed be a spoiler. Suffice it to say, for a mystery thriller with a few unexpected twists, add ‘Love Crime’ to your must see list! Grade: B+
