Guía Para Padres Para Fomentar El Éxito Escolar– Parents’ Guides on what your child should know at the end of each school year are available without cost from the National PTA in Spanish. The guides are designed specifically to assist parents, who want to support their learners by informing themselves concerning core tenants of what kids need to know and be able to do by the end of each of their grade levels.
With information about the foundations provided by the core standards, knowledgeable parents can make wise decisions about activities at home or advocacy at school or state levels to support their learners’ successes at every grade level.
Free Parents’ Guides in Spanish offer tips and activities, too!
The Parents’ Guides to School Success in Spanish are published in separate guides that cover the Grades K-8 years and two guides to cover grades 9-12. The eleven guides are created by the National PTA in partnership with experts on Common Core Standards. The helpful guides include:
- Key items that children should be learning in English language arts and mathematics in each grade, once the Standards are fully implemented.
- Activities that parents can do at home to support their child’s learning.
- Methods (questions and sample topics) for helping parents build stronger relationships with their child’s teacher.

State initiatives are at different stages
The Common Core Standards have been adopted by more than 40 states. The policies and regulations to provide integration, oversight, testing, and regulations still are being implemented in many states. It’s possible to learn more about an individual state at the Common Core Standard’s website as well as through an individual state’s Department of Education.
National PTA President, Charles J. “Chuck” Saylors indicates the guides are “empowering parents to stay ahead of the curve and take action for their children’s success.” Additionally, he sees that empowerment occurs at home, school, and at the state level because “a key part of the work will be to help parents talk about and understand how the Standards can be used to improve their children’s chances for success. These guides will help parents do just that.”
Support academic success
In today’s fast paced and challenging global economy, the academic achievement of every learner is an influential element of success. Data from research including that of Dr. Joyce L. Epstein, Founder and Director of Johns Hopkins’ National Network of Partnership Schools has shown that both schools and parents have profound influences on learning progress. In knowledgeable partnership, those influences serve to support each child’s physical, intellectual, and emotional development and, in turn, create the essential foundations for student achievement and success.
Academic achievementhas always been paramount. But, in today’s changing economy the need for advanced skills and technical knowledge is growing. Showing our children that we value learning and education is important and will pay off in the long run as they mature. When parents are involved in their children’s educations, student achievement improves. The National PTA Parents’ Guides to School Success offered in Spanish are an educational resource that can help every family.
