In the September 28, 2011 episode of Up All Night, Chris and Reagan explore a little phenomenon we shall call the new-baby-wardrobe syndrome. That lovely land parents get caught up in after having a baby. It’s a combination of the exhaustion and every ensemble having either spit up or some other yet-to-be-identified stain, while still working to get the pre-baby body back, so…More often than not comfort overrules fashion.
It’s this conundrum that Chris sucks Reagan into pondering in Up All Night’s new episode, Working Late and Working It in an effort to “retain the romance in their relationship.”
A perplexed Chris brings in the expertise of his dad buddy who has first hand experience with the after-baby “sweatpants purgatory.”
This Owen Wilson-esque surfer-dude friend hops on board making over Chris so he can lead by example and avoid stomping all over Reagan’s feelings. Granted it gets a little awkward when they did the underwear assessment, but it did reveal that there is apparently a dad equivalent of the mom jeans. You’ll want to watch the clip from that moment.
Unfortunately, Chris lacks a little something in the subtlety department and ends up offending Reagan who just wants to come home after 14 hours of work, lose the girdle and two layers of Spanx and just relax. As a result he gets an ultra fancy Reagan the morning after, which apparently comes complete with an English accent.
What ultimately brings Reagan through her anger is, not the dog-shaped flower bouquet Chris sent, but Ava reminding her that Chris is definitely one of the good ones. And he so is: cooking incredible meals, striving to bring his own brand of sexy to keep things fresh, and he’s rocking the stay-at-home dad thing. That alone makes him sexy.
In the midst of all this figuring out how to keep their relationship spicy, we get a special glimpse at the early days of Ava and Reagan’s friendship – with Christina Applegate looking very Kelly Bundy-ish in that particular scene. We were also gifted with – words just cannot describe – the music video to end all music videos. You’ll definitely want to take a peek at Ava’s Music Video.
Three episodes into NBC’s new sitcom Up All Night and it seems only to get better with each passing episode. The relationship between Applegate’s and Will Arnett’s Reagan and Chris feels real and is incredibly likable. While Maya Rudolph’s Ava brings an eccentricity that is fun to watch.
