Situated on more than 300 acres, Bishop’s Orchard in Guilford has a little something for everyone. When the weather is cooperating, their pick-your-own selection is a family favorite. The picking season starts in early summer and runs through the end of October. Currently, apples and pumpkins are available, but the crop selection shifts through the season depending on ripeness. Call their 24-information line, 203-458-PICK for updates.
After the picking is done, grab some apple cider and bring the children over to the hay maze. They will also love the scarecrow making area and looking at the Orchard’s Alpacas, Llamas, and Goats. Be sure to pick up the supplies needed to turn your new pumpkin into a jack-o’-lantern that will terrify trick-or-treaters of all ages.
All of this fun is sure to tire the kids out and have them asking to go to bed early. This is the perfect time to pop open that bottle from the Bishop’s Orchard winery. Not only do they offer over a dozen types of wine made right on the premise, they also sell selections from other popular Connecticut wineries.
Their specialty is wines made from fruit other than grapes, such as apples, pears, strawberries, and peaches. If your choice is the Adam’s Apple, an ice-style dessert wine, don’t forget to bring home something sweet to complement it. Whether your desire is something heavenly or something sinful, Bishops has it all, and more.
