Fido just keeps making the news where health is concerned
Experts seem to agree that those who own dogs and walk them really do walk more, walker faster and are more likely to actually enjoy an active lifestyle all due to their faithful companion.
Dr. Sandra McCune, co-author of the book “The Health Benefits of Dog Walking for People and Pets” and an animal behaviorist in Leicestershire, England, remarks that studies have shown if you are a dog walker, you are most likely to meet the daily activities guidelines.
Around 66% of dog owners walk due to having their faithful companion according to a recent survey of over 1,011 adults. The survey had been commission by Mars Petcare.
It has been noted that one quarter of people with children and pets visit parks and other outdoor areas on a regular basis. Plus, no matter what the weather Fido needs to be walked so you can be sure he will make sure you keep exercising.
According to Dr. McCune, those dog walks strengthen social skills and build community ties. People are just more likely to have a conversation when walking the dog.
Also note by the poll was that 44% of dog owners 65 years and up get the exercise they need on a weekly basis due to their dog.
Dr. McCune states that dog ownership benefits the community. According to Kathy Leclair, executive director of the Lakeview Illinois YMCA “Families with dogs seem to be more active.”
Shirley Archer, fitness instructor in Florida, dogs provides companionship. She does remind people that dogs are living creatures and need to be taken care of. If you take them with you on bike you need to teach them to stay. They need hydrated and do not let dogs run after they have eaten.
Laura Cartwright Hardy, grandmother and graduate student in Arkansas who owns to German Shepherds credits her dogs for keeping her always fit. Mentioning they keep you honest about walking as for Laura her dog’s big brown eyes makes it impossible to say no to them.
As for Fido he can also provide you that energy boost you may need, help you burn off the calories and improve your overall fitness level. Above all be a responsible dog owner. Just do not get a dog for the purpose of exercise. Make sure you really want their love and companionship they will provide you for years to come.
