In a new release of documents on September 26th regarding the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal that the ATF and Department of Justice were central to, evidence is now showing that taxpayer money was spent by the government to outfit gangs and drug cartels with weapons.
Not only did U.S. officials approve, allow and assist in the sale of more than 2,000 guns to the Sinaloa cartel — the federal government used taxpayer money to buy semi-automatic weapons, sold them to criminals and then watched as the guns disappeared.
This disclosure, revealed in documents obtained by Fox News, could undermine the Department of Justice’s previous defense that Operation Fast and Furious was a “botched” operation where agents simply “lost track” of weapons as they were transferred from one illegal buyer to another. Instead, it heightens the culpability of the federal government as Mexico, according to sources, has opened two criminal investigations into the operation that flooded their country with illegal weapons. – Fox News
With so much wasteful spending that has led to massive deficits and an overal debt of $14.5 trillion dollars, this revelation on the Fast and Furious scandal will only provide more fuel to the fire between Congress and the White House on programs and agencies that should receive budget cuts. The ATF and Department of Justice are already under investigation by Congress for their role in the Fast and Furious gunrunning operation, and with recent debates over budget cuts to agencies such as FEMA, the likelihood of more departments being added to Congress’s cut list could grow after today’s report.
Operation Gunwalker, or also known as Fast and Furious, has led to at least one death of an American border patrol officer, and has circumstancially been tied to numerous killings of innocents on the Mexican side of the border. The Mexican government is currently seeking information on the program, and as news grows to include the knowledge that this was a taxpayer funded operation, the ramifications between the US and Mexico will become strained even further.
Very quickly, Fast and Furious is becoming President Obama’s Watergate, and as new documents are showing, the operation was being funded with taxpayer money by agencies in the Executive Branch, and has led to the United States helping to outfit gangs and drug cartels with weapons. This oppration has not only led to the deaths of several Mexican citizens and an American border patrol agent, but it also undermines our multi-billion dollar, decades long war on drugs.
