For years, Oprah and Jessica Simpson have shone in the spotlight — but that spotlight also has lit up their weight loss battles. Oprah is famous for lugging a child’s red wagon onto her stage, filled with “fat” representing her weight loss. Slim in her jeans, she vowed she’d never regain that weight…and a year later, her hefty bulk belied her words. Jessica Simpson has dazzled us in her Daisy Dukes…and dismayed us in her dark dresses donned to hide her weight gain.
Now, a new study reveals just why so many celebrities and “real folks” have weight loss battles. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine this week, the study showed when people lose at least 10 percent of their weight, then diet to continue their weight loss, two problems occur: they experience hormonal shifts that result in an incresaed appetite AND their metabolisms slowed. The concern is that these challenging changes continue, making it so difficult for celebrities like Oprah and Jessica to stay at their lower weights.
