The weather is getting cooler and the warm clothes are coming out of the closet, which can only mean one thing; time to stock up on all the new fall book releases.
This year, as you sit down with your cup of hot chocolate, wrapped in your favorite blanket, there are many new titles that will keep you glued to your chair. Whether you prefer evil vampires taking over the world, or revisiting the land of “Oz” or the re-examination of the assassination of one of the greatest
Presidents of all time, there is something on the list of fall book releases that will keep you turning those pages and coming back for more.
Here, for your consideration, is a list of some of the most anticipated titles scheduled to be released this fall:
1) The Night Eternal (Release date 10/25/11) by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan –
The last book in “The Strain” trilogy takes place 2 years after the events of “The Fall” and finds our courageous, but disheartened band of vampire hunters, living in a post-apocalyptic future where the best and brightest humans have all but been exterminated, while the rest of us are kept as food for the vampires or breeding of more humans.
In the end, can Eph Goodweather, the former CDC doctor, whose un-dead wife still stalks him and whose son is now a minion of “The Master”, along with Fet, the former NYC exterminator, who went from rats to vampires, and Gus, the gang-banger turned vampire hunter, decipher the ancient book that might finally hold the answer to destroying “The Master” or is this the final plague that will wipe out humanity for good?
2) Kill Alex Cross (Release date 11/14/11) by James Patterson –
In this latest Alex Cross thriller, James Patterson takes us to Washington, DC, where someone has kidnapped the President’s children. Throw in the contamination of America’s water supply and, possibly, the biggest threat to the United States anyone has ever seen, and you have the makings for one of the most exciting James Patterson novels to hit the shelves in quite some time.
3) Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever (Release date 9/27/11) by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard –
The Assassination of President Lincoln has long been a fascinating piece of American history. More of a murder mystery/conspiracy theory, this book includes all the major players of the day including John Wilkes Booth and Mary Surratt, the first woman ever executed by the U.S. government.
Interesting and fast-paced, this re-telling of one of the most notorious murders in U.S. history offers the rare opportunity of taking a piece of history and infusing it with new life and fresh perspective.
4) 11/22/63: A Novel (Release Date 11/08/11) by Stephen King –
Another book about the assassination of one of America’s favorite Presidents, this fictional account by the reigning “Master of Horror”, is a 1,000 page epic about a 35 yr. old English teacher from New England, who takes on the impossible task of going back in time to prevent the murder of John F. Kennedy.
Taking on the simpler times of the late 50’s, early 60’s, when Elvis was king, “soda-jerks” still existed and innocence was still alive, Stephen King has, once again, built a page-turning thriller that, despite it’s size, will still leave the reader wanting more.
5) Out of Oz (Release Date 11/1/11) by Gregory Maguire –
This last book in Gregory Maguire’s “Wicked” series is the, highly anticipated, final chapter to a world that re-introduced us to Elphaba, The Wicked Witch of the West, Galinda, The Good Witch, as well as, The Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow, characters we first met in L. Frank Baum’s original, “Wizard of Oz”.
But, this is far from your Mother’s “Oz”.
In this last book, Munchkinland land has been invaded by military forces from the Emerald City, Galinda is under house-arrest, the Cowardly Lion is on the run, trying to evade capture by the “Wizard” and that strange little girl from some strange place called “Canzizz” is back … but for what?
For fans of Maguire’s work, this book is a must have. For anyone who hasn’t read the “Wicked” books, a warning; once read, they cannot be un-read and you will never see “The Wizard of Oz” the same again.
Well, that’s just some of my “must-have” books for this fall. I assure you there are plenty more and welcome, as always, your suggestions, ideas and opinions.
