I bumped into my buddy George Strayton at this weekend’s New York Comic Con and had an opportunity to interview him about the upcoming Book of Vile Darkness movie. George is a story and game consultant for the film.
Michael Tresca (MT): How’s the Book of Vile Darkness movie coming along?
George Strayton (GS): The script, co-written by Brian Rudnick, is VERY D&D. Filming has been completed and they’re now editing and creating the visual effects. Hopefully there will be a trailer out soon so everyone can get their first glimpse at the film.
MT: How will this movie tie into the role-playing game?
GS: The movie ties in directly with the roleplaying game. Here’s the link to the product: http://www.amazon.com/Book-Vile-Darkness-4th-Supplement/dp/0786958685
MT: Does this movie have any connection to previous films?
GS: No, it’s unrelated to the previous films.
MT: Can you give a general idea of the plot?
GS: That’s still under wraps, but again it’s by far the most “D&D” of the films — a band of adventurers who don’t necessarily get along (and even have different overall agendas) going on a quest for treasure and coming up against the forces of darkness.
MT: How will this movie be “vile” and “dark”?
GS: The trailer will definitely show off both the darkness and the vileness of the film. Silver Pictures is the production company, so fans should be on the look-out for a press release from them soon.
MT: Presumably the namesake features prominently in the film?
GS: Yes. :)
MT: When will the movie debut?
GS: The official release date hasn’t been determined yet. We should find out in the near future.
MT: Where can we find out more about the film?
GS: I’ll be posting what I can, when I can on our site, www.secretfiregames.com, but there should be information available on the Wizards of the Coast site.
