Stories and poems from three animal-loving St. Louis area authors were among those chosen from writers across the U.S. and overseas for Nurturing Paws, an anthology of over 80 short literary works compiled by Whispering Angel Books to honor the importance of pets in our lives. Whispering Angel is known for publishing inspiring and uplifting stories, and a major theme in Nurturing Paws is that animals not only provide love, but healing. Freelance writer Linda O’Connell, whose work has been included in twelve Chicken Soup for the Soul books (so far), has a mixed-breed senior citizen dog, Dusty – or rather , she says, “he owns her.” Faye Adams is a prolific and award-winning poet and writer with two “spoiled cats.” Sheree Klemites Nielsen, freelancer for newspapers and Missouri Life Magazine, has three “animal children” and has felt the heartbreak of losing two of her furry kids this year.
This Saturday from 11:00am-1:00pm, Linda, Faye and Sheree will be at Main Street Books in the historic district of St. Charles to sign copies of Nurturing Paws. A portion of sales will go towards therapy dog programs. Sheree volunteers for CHAMP Assistance Dogs, a St. Louis organization that trains service dogs and places them with people with disabilities. She and other CHAMP representatives, two- and four-footed, will be on hand at Main Street Books to further awareness of their program. Stop by for a warm fuzzy.
