On Labor Day Weekend 2011 a beautiful OASIS appeared in the middle of a bustling city. This OASIS provided happiness and joy to the Caribbean Community. Upon entering the OASIS, there were opulent white tents, feathered and beaded costumes on display, free gifts and an abundance of coolers filled to the brim with wines and spirits. At the center of the OASIS was music, dancing and revelry as far as the eye could see. There were people jumping and waving and laughter wafted through the air, as partygoers could not get enough of this night. Voices were raised in songs of sweet soca and most noticeable were all the beautiful shades of pink being worn by guests and hosts alike. A Caribbean fairy tale come true in the middle of Miami? Not so much a fairy tale but a wonderful way to bring awareness to the fight to end Breast Cancer!
Although this may sound like a chapter out of a storybook, this is a true-life event that has been taking place since 2008. Every Labor Day weekend since its inception, OASIS Charity Cooler Fete has been showing support and working with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Charity. An initial collaboration between two of South Florida’s top Caribbean promoters, sixAxis Ent and Jewel Miami. These promoters came together to do an event of substance and cause. Their long time relationship with a very prominent lawyer in the Caribbean community, Marlon Hill of DelancyHill, helped to open the door to what is now a substantial relationship with the folks at Susan G. Komen for the Cure and ‘the synergies were created to make a difference.’
Cancer has had an impact on so many people in the US and within the Caribbean community. It has touched the lives of several of the promoters, with friends, wives and mothers being courageous survivors of this world wide disease. In addition to the cooler fete, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure has an annual marathon in which Mr. Marlon Hill brings his team called D’Limers to Race for the Cure and continue to open the public’s eyes, hearts and pockets to the cause.
OASIS has many positive sponsors that help make this event happen yearly. This year some of their major sponsors were: The Cameron Law Group, along with Voli Vodka, Vita Coco, Aperol, Barbican Square Restaurant and Xante.
A Charity event that evokes so much happiness and positivity can only continue to be a tremendous success. The hope is that OASIS gets its message out to all of South Florida and next year it will be even bigger, bringing more knowledge and awareness with their continued support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
(This year OASIS was held at THE MIAMI SEAQUARIUM)
