September 25, 2011 marked the 10 year anniversary Celebration of Oasis Community Church. Coupled with faithful, Biblical teaching and faithful, Biblical leadership; OCC has set a new mark for local churches to look to for their upcoming anniversaries.
Beginning the day off with their usual two-service platform, the congregation was delivered a strong, but needed sermon on “Perseverance” by Pastor Bruce Brock of Tucson, Arizona. Beginning with “God perseveres with His people” and ending with “Your righteousness is in Christ alone,” congregants walked away with a rejuvenated faith dependent on Christ’s work rather than their own.
And after the heart-piercing message on perseverance, congregants were then lead in worship by the high school worship band alongside the OCC children’s group—hand gestures and all.
With the second service coming to a close, Senior Pastor Billy Claudio lead everyone in prayer, blessed the food, and gave a very kind “thank you” to all those who have helped build up the Oasis Community family over the last 10 years. And after all was said and done, now came the real fun—food and fellowship!
Awaiting everyone outside was plate after plate of delicious fajitas, rice and beans, nachos and cheese, and even Mexican-esque meatballs really making the whole Mexican fiesta theme come alive—mariachi included!
And while the parents ate, the kids were able to help themselves to a giant, inflatable waterslide equipped with gallons of refreshingly cold water. And just when one thought it was over, out came the 800 plus cupcakes!
Having their own version of Cupcake Wars, the OCC congregants really showed their baking prowess by way of friendly competition to see who could dress up the best cupcake. Decorated delicately with flower tops, miniature cacti, tiny hats, and even some shaped like apples, the cupcake war raged on!
Ultimately, however, there can only be one victorious cupcake, or in this case three victorious cupcake makers: Debbi Clayton, Elsie Duarte, and Magen Hudson.
When they aren’t found in prayer, preaching, or study; Oasis Community knows how to throw a great outreach bash and at the same time celebrate all God has done for them.
Thank you to the leadership, all those who participated (especially those who brought edibles!), and most importantly thank you to God for allowing us to be together and to worship Him.
