Commentary from the liberterrain…
Few knew there was an Occupy Fort Worth, a smaller sibling of Occupy Dallas, in turn an offspring of Occupy Wall Street.
But the confusion of purpose is the same.
A recent article from CBSDFW.COM proclaimed, “Some 50 protesters gathered Monday morning to protest Wall Streets control over Congress.”
Are they kidding? Wall Street’s control over congress? Congress can’t be controlled by anyone unless Congress wants to be controlled.
And that’s what happens. Congress actively colludes with Wall Street, big banks, big corporations and big unions to control money and power because it directly benefits the politicians, banksters, CEOs and bosses who run them.
Progressives and libertarians reject the corporate state but differ in what to do about it.
Libertarians understand that providers under capitalism – in their lexicon meaning the free market without government intervention – have no choice but to offer the best goods and services at the lowest possible prices. If they don’t, someone else will. This is not “unbridled” capitalism. Every shopper, every purchaser, every consumer, everyone who pays for services or products, is the bridle of every provider in the marketplace. Companies don’t have armies of enforcers gong from door to door demanding that consumers buy from them or go to jail. If they did they wouldn’t be companies, they would be the equivalent of governments, and if they could do that they wouldn’t bother selling products or services, they would just take people’s money at gunpoint.
Progressives demand that capitalism, apparently indistinguishable in their minds from corporatism, be blamed for society’s ills because they have a love affair with government coercion. All that needs be done is for “the people” to somehow select their own good people to run government, which will magnanimously manipulate the entirety of society for the benefit of all. But then what of the marketplace? Government will control it all, with the same results that lead to shortages and mismanagement and forced collectivism and famines that occurred in soviet socialist Russia and communist North Korea and fascist Italy. That’s because government, under every “ism” ever devised, exists to benefit the ruling class at the expense of everyone else no matter what true believers believe.
Blaming Wall Street for “controlling” Congress is like blaming The Other Woman for “controlling” a cheating husband.
Note to the Occupiers: It takes two to tango; all cheaters are equally guilty.
