For a couple of years now, I’ve been watching you. For a couple of years now, you’ve appalled me with your breathtaking dishonesty and flagrant hypocrisy. I know you’re young – which means you don’t know very much. As Gloria Steinem said . . . what’s that? No dear, I wouldn’t expect you to know who she is. But as I was saying, as feminist Gloria Steinem said, “One day an army of gray-haired women may quietly take over the Earth!” What I interpret that to mean is that young women, like yourself, don’t have the knowledge or the insight or the life experience to make any decisions, of any sort, for women as a whole. Feel free to make those choices for yourself; but when you do what you do, and attempt to condemn an entire country full of women to the hell you live in, you do nothing but harm. And because you’re young and rabidly anti-choice and a black-and-white thinker and a media hog and not very smart, you think solely on the surface based on your own personal insecurities, and blithely try to enforce your misguided will on women who have wills of their own. You’ll always fail, because at least half the country’s women are wiser than you, more experienced than you, and view you with scorn and contempt. My own daughter is about your age – but she views you that way too.
You have, apparently, made it your life’s mission to reduce Planned Parenthood to begging on the street corners for funding. You’ve chosen to ignore the millions of women who depend on Planned Parenthood for health care, women who can’t afford it otherwise; you’ve chosen, in your youth and ignorance, to focus on 3% of its services which are abortion-related, and throw the 97% of preventive care services baby out with the bathwater. The thing is, nobody’s that dumb – the conclusion I’ve reached is that you not only don’t care about women, you really wish the nation’s women ill.
And now you have a new mission, since you’ve been a dismal failure in your “sting” videos against Planned Parenthood that reek of dishonesty: You want to strip Planned Parenthood of its sexual education funding as well, preventing women from the sort of family planning that would prevent the abortions you find so aborrhent. I’ll give you this: Your malice against women is fueled by enormous energy. You sit in an interview with Laura Ingraham on The O’Reilly Factor, and displayed is a Planned Parenthood sign with crosshairs on it. You make claims that you can’t prove. You hold yourself out as a savior, but actually try to force women to fall on the sword. We can only be glad that you aren’t very good at what you do.
Your efforts to discredit Planned Parenthood, an organization that is so valuable as a health care outlet to so very many women, is so desperate that you even make efforts to prove that it doesn’t provide mammograms to patients. This has nothing to do with abortion services; this has everything to do with media attention and a personal vendetta that garners that for you. The fact is, Ms. Rose, you’re a liar and a fraud. You refuse to release videos that prove what you claim. You know that, contrary to what you assert, Planned Parenthood does in fact report acts of wrongdoing, such as statutory rape, to the FBI or local officials. Your partner in these endeavors is James O’Keefe, a convicted criminal and a proven perpetrator of fraud on the American public. And yet, despite all this, your energy for misdeeds knows no bounds.
And through all of it, you’re a pitiful, pathetic failure – you have no “mission accomplished” on your resume from your little “media revolution.” No amount of propping up by Glenn Beck or anyone on Fox News is going to change that. No criminal charges or investigations have been launched as a result of all your hard work against women. At the federal level, your little video clips haven’t gained traction. Your own associates find the tactics of you and your criminal compadre, Mr. O’Keefe, shady. Although Mr. O’Keefe said that “it’s a pretty complicated ethical issue,” it really isn’t complicated at all: Integrity and ethics are not fluid things, and you can’t lay claim to either.
See, Ms. Rose, the bottom line is that nobody who’s anybody really cares. People like me, well, I care, because the type of stupidity and heartlessness you display is as irritating as a fly buzzing around my picnic: It’s not likely to spoil the day, but if given the chance, I will swat it.
I will give you two pieces of advice – and this is coming from an older woman who’s lived a little, talking to a little girl playing at being a honey badger: You don’t have the right to claim that you’re working on behalf of women – it’s hypocrisy on its face, and we have no interest in your kind of help. That’s the first piece. And the second piece of advice is that, if you want to be taken serious as a holier-than-thou activist of the anti-choice crowd, you might want to reconsider letting people take pictures of you sitting with your hand wrapped lovingly around a bong. Of course, the pictures might be photoshopped – but that, my dear, is my third piece of advice, free of charge. Be careful not to get hoist on your own petard.
