It was a beautiful day last Sunday for a motorcycle ride! The sky was slightly overcast and a lovely breeze kept the temperature in the low 80’s. A group of 25 brothers from the Palm Beach County Nam Knights along with their wives and girlfriends took to the road to remember members who have passed away. They started the day with a delicious breakfast at VFW Post 4360 then headed to the South Florida National Cemetary to pay respects to William “Jungle Cat” Cushing Jr.. While they were there members also took a moment to honor and remember all those who served this Country. The next stop took them to Hillcrest Memorial Park where Randy “Colonel” Etheridge was remembered. Onto highway 95 they headed north to mile marker 108 where Michael “Micgyver” Bowersock and his daughter Andrea lost their lives in a tragic car crash.
The day was filled with memories and even a few tears but it was the final destination that brought the day full circle and gave comfort and support to a group of people devastated last Wednesday when a tornado struck Indiantown, FL and VFW Post 2063 lost their building. The Nam Knights pulled up late Sunday afternoon and visited with Post members who had been grilling burgers and selling drinks. The food had already run out but sodas and beer were available for donations. The Knights opened their pockets and gave generously. Through the generosity of the community, other VFW Posts, Veterans like the Nam Knights and others who care Post 2063 raised $13,000 in the three days following the storm to aid in the rebuilding of their home. Just a note: The VFW organization is a gathering place for veterans returning from war giving them a place to be amongst others who have been through the same thing. The VFW is one of the largest lobbying organizations in the U.S. on behalf of all veterans. Rebuilding this post is important to our veterans who have served so well. For those interested, donations can be mailed to: VFW Post #6023, 16701 SW Morgan Street, Indiantown, FL 34956. Checks should be payable to VFW Post # 6023.
As the sun began its descent into the West. The Knights gathered under a tent the Post had erected for the day’s event and took a moment to call out the names of their departed brothers and raise a glass in their honor. They also sent up a prayer and offer of help to Post 2063 to rebuild quickly and be better than ever.
It was a really good day to be a Nam Knight!
