With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 coming, we’re seeing a lot about patriotism, so I thought I’d put my two cents in as well. For many, patriotism is love of country, but too many take that too far, to blind devotion to country.
Patriotism isn’t saying a pledge, or posting someone elses’s words. Patriotism is loving your country despite its flaws, not pretending they don’t exist. It’s pointing out mistakes so they can be fixed, problems so they can be solved, and above all remembering that someone who disagrees with you can love your country too.
Or to put it in bumper sticker terms, “America: Love It and Leave It Better Than You Found It!”
