A fatal motor vehicle crash took the life of a male pedestrian in Dix Hills early yesterday morning, causing the shutdown of Jericho Turnpike near Deer Park Road for hours.
Suffolk County Police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
According to the police report, 45 year old Kevin Keegan was standing in the westbound lanes of Jericho Turnpike, just east of East Deer Park Road, when he was struck at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 24 by a 2009 Ford van. The van was being driven by Jonathan Stoll.
Keegan, of Oak Gardens, Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Stoll, 58, of Northport, was not injured in the crash.
Jericho Turnpike, also known as Route 25, is a heavily traveled east and west route used by many commuters as an alternate to the Long Island Expressway. Drivers were diverted to the LIE, Northern State and Southern State Parkways through much of the morning, well past rush hour, as the crash investigation continued.
Stoll’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is ongoing.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
