Notes: Pitt is trying to stop a 2-game losing streak. Connecticut is coming off a 16-10 win against South Florida. Pitt’s loss at Uconn last year pushed Pitt out of the Big East Championship race and helped Uconn win the championship instead.
Key match-up: Pitt’s Ray Graham is the second-leading rusher in the country averaging over 134 yards a game and Uconn’s rush defense is ranked ninth in the country, giving up only 89 yards a game.
Injury update: Pitt’t best offensive lineman, senior Lucas Nix, could return to the lineup after being sorely missed the last two games. His return is a game-time decision. Todd Thomas should return at linebacker. Defensive back Jason Hendricks is lost for the season due to a shoulder injury.
Todd Graham’s thoughts on why the offense has not clicked yet: We just tried to do too much.
On what the team focused on since the last game (loss to Utah): We had a tough loss last game. We really tried to focus on fundamentals since then and adapt to what we think we can do better.
His thoughts on team strengths: Our special teams have been a positive and we can build from that. Our seniors are a special group.
Graham’s thoughts on Connecticut: They’re the Big East champs from last year. They exemplify character and mental toughness. They’re not flashy, but they find a way to win.
