So you’re discussing your love for a certain band or musician with a friend, and the reply inevitably becomes, “I’ve never heard any of their music. What would you recommend?”.
Uh oh – the pressure is on now. Which songs can you choose that sum up that musician’s particular sound as a whole? The easy solution is to play a “Greatest Hits” CD for your friend (if such a collection exists), but if you’re anything like me, you often prefer the lesser known pieces in a musician’s discography to the songs that are marketed to the general public.
Here are some lesser known songs by better known artists that I would select to introduce to a friend. I would also recommend these songs to someone who might be averse to the artist’s catalog in an attempt to change his/her mind. You never know when a song might “click” with someone. The next thing you know, your brother could be purchasing a Taylor Swift CD, or your mom is out buying the newest Maroon 5 album, based on one of your recommendations!
