President Obama talks of job creation in speech after rehashed speech. All, We the People, receive is business as usual; meddling, more meddling, new regulations, increased unemployment, more spending, etc…. but not jobs. He promised “change” , but delivers the same old same with a twist of worse.
Simple things like getting the government out of the way would create real jobs. He and his progressive ideas only make matters worse. Poll after poll reveals that American’s favor drilling for domestic oil and natural gas. This simple act would not only create jobs, but also lower the costs of fuel.
As with immigration and other issues of concern to American citizens; it’s mind over matter-The President doesn’t mind and we don’t matter. The will of the people and the welfare of the Republic take a back seat to his Progressive goals.
There are billions upon billions of available barrels of oil plus a trillion plus barrels of shale oil in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Opening up exploration for these valuable resources would lower the long term price of oil. If only we had a President truly concerned with America’s economic future.
The naysayers claim it would take 5-10 years to recover these deposits. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) would drop their prices to sell as much as possible during this time frame. Sadly the Obama Administration like it’s predecessors have been OPEC’s greatest ally.
They’ve kept us bent over OPEC’s barrel while the U.S. has an expanse of job creating energy resources readily available under our feet. Estimates place enough oil to power 65 million cars for 60 years and enough natural gas to heat 60 million homes for 160 years. We should drill baby drill until an efficient alternative is available.
The Department of Energy with it’s $23 billion annual budget and nearly 100,000 employees is a failure. When this bureaucratic bungle was created, we were importing 30% of our needs. We now import around 70%. Not what one would call a great “investment”.
Instead of offering “change” and encouraging production and jobs it’s business as usual. Punish them with new taxes and re-distribute the wealth. Even came out in supprt of oil exploration in South America. Amereican oil workers are still looking for a paycheck.
The Congressional Research Service showed that windfall profits tax between 1980 and 1988 “reduced domestic oil production between 3% and 6%, and increased oil imports from between 8% and 16%.” 2011: no change or jobs; Obama just plays the blame game.
Government meddling continues to lighten our wallets. Excise taxes account for around 18.4 cents per gallon of gas. State excise taxes account on average for another 21 cents per gallon. In just 25 short years these failed policies took us from producing 60% of our needs to 25%. Business as usual has failed miserably.
By putting the oil industry in his sights; President Obama is targeting average citizens. The vast majority of shares in big oil is held directly or indirectly by Americans via IRA’s, etc….acceptable collatoral damage.
The government collects 15 cents of every gallon of gas sold. The debt debates have shown that they waste these revenues. The Tax Foudation compiled examples from the 2005 Highway Bill: $16 million for New York grafitti removal, $8 million for a Harlem Hospital garage, etc….. Our roads and bridges fall into disrepair and they waste the funds to fix them.
More domestic energy exploration, drilling, and refining will help get our nation back on track. Our leaders, however, choose to be roadblocks. The Freedom Index of the August 8, 2011 The New American magazine reported on House Resolution 1229. H.R. 1229 was passed on May 11, 2011 by a vote of 263 to 163. All Alabama Representatives voted in favor of removing bureaucratic hurdles to offshore drilling.
I thank Rep. Mike Rogers and all his colleagues for stepping up to the plate. They are to be commended for their efforts to put America on the right track. Obama stalls and interferes keeping us tethered to OPEC. He needs to be shelved in 2012.
President Obama can keep his change. We need to restore that which he has corrupted. Rep Ron Paul describes his change best; “Change for the sake of change , but not doing the right thing is pure folly.” Wake up Alabama!
