This week on Project Runway Season 9, Episode 10 (Channel 42 in Scottsdale), the designers are challenged to step back in time. They finally get the coveted opportunity to work by themselves and on their regular models, but they have to use the 70s as inspiration. Tim Gunn tells them not to be too literal, and they have $100 to spend. Viewers are excited to see what kind of creativity comes out in this challenge, but there are some dramatic happenings in store.
Everybody heads to Mood to shop, and Anya loses her money. It fell out of her top, and she is in a panic. Everybody is desperately searching for the money, but it is nowhere to be found. Tim tells her that she can either work solely with muslin, or she can ask the other designers for their leftover money. The designers (except Viktor) promise to give her their leftover fabric, but things are not looking good for Anya.
Midway through their work time, Tim comes in and throws a shocker at them: they will need to add an additional garment to accompany their look, and they have $50 to put toward it. Back to Mood they go. When it comes time to head to the runway, everybody is still scrambling to finish their pieces. After the models do their walk, Viktor, Anya and Bert are the top three, while Laura, Joshua and Anthony Ryan are the bottom three.
The judges think that Viktor’s tailoring is fabulous, but the look itself is boring. Anya’s resourcefulness is praised, they they love her jumper. Nina in particular is going crazy for her garments. Bert’s pieces are praised as being a perfect representation of the 70s, and his simplicity wins over the judges.
As for the bottom three, Michael Kors doesn’t think Laura’s pieces look like fashion, and her pieces just don’t sync. Joshua pleads that he puts his heart and soul into his work, and later he gets wound up saying that he doesn’t know the fashion because he didn’t grow up in the 70s. The other designers think he needs to get a clue. Anthony Ryan’s pieces are said to be cultish and boring, and Michael Kors calls them “hippie Sister Wives.”
Anya wins the challenge this week, which is certainly a shock considering how this week started out for her. Unfortunately and shockingly, Anthony Ryan is eliminated. Many had him pegged for a final three spot this season, so to see him leave now is heartbreaking for many fans. If it were up to a viewer vote, Joshua would certainly be skating on thin ice at this point.
What do you think of the judge’s decisions this week? Who do you think is the frontrunner to win this season? Tune in to Project Runway every Thursday night on Lifetime, Channel 42 in Scottsdale.
