Major props go to the U.S. marine from New York who told talk radio’s Sean Hannity to f*ck off. When asked about Fox News’ arch-conservative Sean Hannity calling protesters “un-American,” the two protesting U.S. Marines said the following:
“You know, that’s pretty funny, when they have these protests, violent protests overseas, we call ‘em democratic. The people are trying to get theirs. But as soon as we start doing ‘em here, they call us unpatriotic. So that’s, uh, very ironic that he would say something like that. The interviewer then asked, “Is there anything that you would specifically tell him if he was here standing in front of you?”I’d tell him to f*ck off, that’s what I would tell him.”
The other marine added: “I think that’s the biggest load of shit I’ve ever heard. Everyone here loves this country and wants to see it grow and wants to see it better. They love the people; they love their community, their neighbors. There hasn’t been racism here or bigotry. We get along as one big family, and that’s what we want for the rest of the country. All the people who are suffering in debt, who can’t speak for themselves, who are too afraid to voice their opinion, we’re here fighting for their rights.”
If anyone is unpatriotic it would be Hannity for dismissing the current struggles of the poor and the average Joe. If anyone is unpatriotic it would be Hannity for being blind to the growing social inequality in America. The data shows it. The one per centers continue to accumulate wealth while the 99 per centers struggle, some barely surviving. CEO salaries and bonuses have outpaced the stagnated wages of working Americans at warp speed. The working man pays more taxes then the biggest corporations in America. So are the 99 per centers not allowed to meet and discuss and ask questions about a system that is broken? Is it unpatriotic for Americans concerned about their country, to express their exasperation at a system that needs tax reform, more oversight of Wall Street casinos, corporations to stop shipping jobs overseas, and money out of politics. They don’t want to bring America down – they want fair play.
The Marines’ sentiments toward Hannity aren’t so uncommon among the “Occupy” protesters. Fox News host Geraldo Riverawas basically booed out of the protest camp earlier in the week by throngs of activists chanting “Fox News lies,” effectively shutting down his attempt at coverage. What do they expect – a red carpet? After all, they work for conservative talk radio and Fox News, a network that has insulted and villified the 99 per centers that includes teachers, Iraq and Vietnam vets, lawyers, college students, the parents of college students who have lost their homes, union members, seniors, and working -class Americans. They have labeled them as loons, smelly hippies, Nazis, Socialists, anarchists, and dirty fleabags. WABC talk radio host Monica Crowley called the protesters “useful idiots who probably haven’t paid much in taxes their whole life. Gee, I guess she means kind of like General Electic that paid almost nothing last year.
In any event, expect the mocking by Fox News and right-wing talk radio to continue. As the 99% movement grows and right-wing media realizes they can no longer mock it, they will attempt to fight back. They will try to infiltrate the movement to set it up and discredit it. When that finally doesn’t work then they will be forced to listen and then the movement will begin changing attitudes and effecting policy change in America.
To Sean Hannity calling the 99 per centers unpatriotic, this writer is compelled to say, “Hey maggot, what is your major malfunction numnuts?!!
