Rock ‘n’ Roll has become as American as apple pie or baseball, and in today’s overly genre-sized music world it’s hard to find good ‘ol fashioned rock n roll. But fear not, Brent James and the Contraband is a group of musicians ready to put the Rock back into Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Their new album ‘Moment of silence’ came out not to long ago and the first single, ‘Moment of silence’ has hit the airwaves with a lot of success. They have toured with Rock ‘n’ Roll legends like Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper, that right there tells you they have some serious talent that will take them far in this industry.
I was able to chat with Brent James himself to get a little background info and to learn about his passions, his plans and hopes for his and the Contrabands future.
Shannon- How did you get your start in music?
Brent James (Brent James and The Contraband)- I always wanted to sing in a band. I was fascinated with the business side of it and started to learn about that as well. They both just became passions and I studied up on Rock & Roll. My mom taught me to sing when I was a kid. That pretty much lit the fuse I’d say.
Shannon- What were you inspirations when you were young as well as now?
Brent- I always was inspired by high energy performers. I still am. I hate going to see a show and the band stands there with their feet in cement acting too cool for school. F#ckin move around. Show us something. We paid to see a show not a rehearsal. That’s just my opinion though.
Shannon- How did Brent James and The Contraband get together?
Brent- I signed a deal with SkiddCo Records and needed a band to play on the record and tour with me. I basically put together my dream team of musicians in my head and was able to snag them all. They’re the best you can get if I do say so myself. Astonishing players.
Shannon- You just released your new album ‘Moment Of Silence,’ what’s that like for you?
Brent- It’s available on Itunes. You can also get it at our shows. The single ‘Moment Of Silence’ just went to radio last week. We are getting a lot of adds. Very exciting.
Shannon- What was the inspiration for that album and the song?
Brent- I think we all have a lot of stuff going on in our lives since the beginning of time. I don’t know anyone who can use a moment to themselves. So I wrote a song about it.
Shannon- You have opened for Ted Nugent on quite a few stops of his current tour, what’s that been like and what do you think of the legendary Motor City Madman?
Brent- It’s been great. We went out with Alice Cooper too. Getting Detroit love is great since we all grew up in Michigan. Ted was amazing to us as was Alice. Truly kind guys. We are about to go back out on the road in support of the record.
Shannon- On your tour stop in Salt Lake City, you guys played a cover that I thought you did an amazing job on, what inspired you to play this song?
Brent- We covered Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith on a few nights. We just liked the song and its energy. Thought Ted people would enjoy it.
Shannon- Well it was a hit in utah at the show. What has been the best moment of your career to date?
Brent- Probably having people hear the song on the radio when we don’t know it’s about to be played. That’s what we’ve been working for and it’s happening. Think it into existence ya know?
Shannon- What do you guys have planned for the future? (tours, new music, projects)
Brent- Tour, tour, tour and radio visits. We are always recording when not touring. We have sleeping bags in the studio.
Shannon- Now that is dedication. Anything you want to add or say to fans and soon to be fans?
Brent- Just thanks so damn much for the support. We can’t do this without you. Much love and see you soon Utah!!!
