Lexus Presents- They Sing. They Act. They Cook?
After the incredible red carpet kick-off last night, the second day of the L.A. Food & Wine festival began with the familiar “pop” of champagne bottles and “clinking” of glasses. On a rooftop in the middle of the iconic L.A. LIVE district, Chef Michael Chiarello and Chef Christopher Kostow shared some of their masterful culinary tips and created mouthwatering samples for everyone to enjoy with their champagne.
Chef Christopher Kostow was surrounded by beautiful ladies as his demonstration began. With his lovely wife in attendance and celebrity guest (and newlywed) Vanessa Minnillo giving him a hand, he was one lucky guy. He created a Thanksgiving inspired treat for guests that included homemade marshmallows! The unique sweet potato soup was infused with a variety of sensational flavors that would satisfy any sweet tooth. This would easily replace any pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day. If you want to experience the thoughtful blend of contemporary French cuisine and farm-to-table tradition that is synonymous with Chef Christopher Kostow, visit The Restaurant at Meadowood.
Fresh off a flight from Barcelona, Chef Michael Chiarello graced the audience with his presence and delicious food that is usually exclusively available in Napa Valley at his critically acclaimed Bottega restaurant. With the help of celebrity guest, Eric Stonestreet, from the Emmy Award winning show Modern Family, Chef Michael Chiarello demonstrated how to prepare a fresh sea urchin risotto. Along with his culinary words of wisdom, he offered some inspirational words for the average cook. He shared that the most important aspect of a meal is its ability to bring family and friends together. It is not important that the meal is perfect as long as it encompasses family memories and commemorates the ones we love. As the samples of the risotto were being passed out, he joked that the “Julia Child amount of butter” was not in keeping with the “Los Angeles diet”. However, Eric Stonestreet marveled that the addition of lemon flavoring made the typically heavy risotto seem light. It was the perfect, fresh meal on a warm day in Sothern California.
Now, Eric Stonestreet and Vanessa Minnillo can add cooking to their long list of talents! However, they will visit The Restaurant at Meadowood or take a trip to Bottega in Napa Valley when they have a hankering for the masterful and inspired cuisine that can only be produced by Chef Christopher Kostow and Chef Michael Chiarello.
