Parts of the area Thursday evening saw a little bit of everything Thursday evening as hail and even snow were accompanied by rain showers. New Lenox, Homer Glen, Batavia, Elgin, and Schaumburg were the cities that reported mixed precipitation yesterday evening. A large part had to do with the cold airmass that was in place where the freezing line was not too far above ground level. Numerous areas failed to reach 50 degrees yesterday. Frost advisories were issued across parts of the area in anticipation of temperatures falling to near the freezing mark if not below.
Many residents across the area woke up to frost on their lawns and cars. The frost will dissipate this morning as temperatures begin to climb. However, it will be another unseasonably cool day with high temperatures some 5-10 degrees below normal. Clouds will increase later this afternoon as a slight disturbance will move in bringing scattered showers to the region tonight. With another cold day as yesterday and the freezing line not too far from the surface, there is the possibility of rain mixing with hail and/or snow. The cool weather regime will continue for the next several days.
