Elitch Gardens’ Fright Fest has something for everyone. It is family friendly by day and terrifying by night! Fright Fest runs through Halloween and it is Denver’s largest Halloween event.
During the day, there is a great array of activities for the kids, such as the Trick or Treat Trail, costume and scream contests, and so much more. When darkness comes, so do the thrills! Elitch Garden has some of Denver’s most acclaimed haunted houses: Brutal Planet, Blood Bath, and Grind House.
I had the opportunity to tour the park at night, and Erica Boniface with Elitch Gardens was kind enough to give us a tour and tell us all we needed to know about this years Fright Fest. A lot of work goes into Denver’s largest Halloween attraction each year. Fight Fest took 4,000 man-hours to build, they used 2,700 feet of cobweb, 25,000 gallons of fake bodily fluids are used, and there are 75 actors who will scare and terrify you all through the park! Personally, the actors with the chainsaws are the most terrifying!
The haunted houses are very scary and very well done. As guests enter Brutal Planet, they are entering a serial killer’s hidden lair. Each set is detailed, and I was scared at every turn. Blood Bath was an attraction unlike any other. Before you enter the haunted house, guests must wear ponchos to avoid the spraying and exploding blood throughout the attraction. Like Brutal Planet, the sets are very detailed and the monsters are horrifying! Grind House is a tour of a slaughterhouse, and you will find yourself being stalked and hunted by various horrendous looking killers. The park also has shows for the Halloween season, such as Wheel of Misfortune, White Noise, Hurl and The Grueling. Honestly, there is something here for everyone.
Fright Fest is a spectacular annual event that should be on everyone’s list of things to do during every Halloween season. Where else can you ride roller coasters, go through three haunted houses, see shows, and get scared all in one place? I highly recommend it. It’s the most fun I’ve had this Halloween!
