Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has confirmed that he has split up with Ana Araujo, whom he had been dating since January 2010.
The Daily Mail quotes Wood as saying:
“I’m taking a sabbatical from her. I’m like Picasso, painting up the ladder after leaving his mistress at the bottom after a row.”
Wood, 64, began dating Araujo, 32, around the time that he had his most recent stint in rehab. In several interviews, he credited her with helping him stay clean and sober. Several media outlets have reported Araujo’s occupation as “polo instructor” or “part-time student.”
When Wood began dating Araujo, he began attending more celebrity events than he usually did before, and Araujo was constantly at his side at events such as A-list fashion shows, concerts, movie premieres, charity fundraisers, celebrity parties and championship sports games. The last high-profile event that Wood and Araujo attended together was a Roberto Cavalli store opening and after-party in London on September 17, 2011, during London Fashion Week.
According to the Daily Mail:
Wood and Miss Araujo had a volatile relationship with the pair regularly being involved in blazing rows. They came close to splitting earlier this year before being speedily reconciled. A friend explained Miss Araujo’s desire to be in the spotlight had “frustrated” Wood, adding: “She would try and drag him along to the opening of an envelope.”
As previously reported in this column, the first noticeable sign that Wood and Araujo had split up was on October 2, 2011, when Wood accompanied Pattie Boyd (the late George Harrison’s first wife) to the London premiere of the documentary film “George Harrison: Living in the Material World.” Araujo was not at the premiere. The weekend of the premiere, Wood was seen partying at London nightclubs without Araujo.
In addition, Wood did not bring Araujo as his date to Paul McCartney’s wedding to Nancy Shevell, which took place in London on October 9, 2011. Instead, Wood took another woman (a young brunette) as his date to the wedding.
The Daily Mail reports:
That mystery brunette can now be named as Sally Humphreys, a theatre producer, who recently worked with Wood.
Speaking to the Mail following the reception, Miss Humphreys insisted she and Wood were not romantically involved.
She said: “No, there is no romance We are friends and have worked together on Ronnie’s box sets.”
When asked where Miss Araujo was, Miss Humphreys – whose new play Third Floor opens this week – replied: “I don’t know about that, it’s not my bag.”
Miss Araujo had previously been living in a flat in South Kensington, South West London with the rent allegedly paid by Wood. One friend last month told the Mail the guitarist also gave her a monthly allowance of £3,000 pocket money.
Ronnie made scandalous headlines in 2008, when he left his second wife, Jo Wood, for a cocktail waitress named Ekaterina “Katia” Ivanova, who was 18 years old at the time. His relationship with Ivanova ended a year later in late 2009, shortly after he was served with a police caution for allegedly assaulting her. Ronnie went into rehab shortly after the incident.
Jo filed for divorce in 2009, and their divorce settlement was finalized in 2011. Ronnie and Jo had been together since the mid-1970s, and they got married in 1985. They have two children together: daughter Leah (born in 1978) and son Tyrone (born in 1983). Ronnie also has a son named Jesse from his first marriage to the late Krissy Wood. Ronnie’s stepson Jamie is from a previous relationship that Jo had when she was a teenager. Ronnie has said in recent interviews that he and Jo are friends now, and that his children have forgiven him for leaving Jo.
