With the grace and poise her fans have come to expect, Sarah Jessica parker lit up the Manolo Blahnik showroom for NYC’s Fashion’s Night Out. Arriving just moments after the first fans were allowed into the flagship store on 54th Street, Sarah’s popularity could be seen in numbers. The line that extended nearly an entire city block and conversations about SJP could be heard throughout.
Several women stated the improbability of getting in, which meant either wishing-and-hoping or taking things into one’s own hands. Past the line, near the entrance was a small group of onlookers. Camera-men, VIPs and security were standing around chatting. Within moments, a large VIP group arrived in a limo and security went to fetch their contact from inside.
An elegant, accented woman emerged and began ushering in the group. When they were all in, she turned to the onlookers and said, “Anyone who’s asking, yes, yes, please come in.” When security asked who these onlookers were with, a simple nod to the elegant woman resulted in her reply of, “Yes, please, they’re invited!”
The showroom was brilliantly lit, with shoes showcased everywhere and people milling about. A line was formed along the entire length of the store, which one would assume was to buy the autographed shoes. Past the line sat Sarah, in her black leather dress with her dark blond hair pulled tightly into a ponytail.
The elegant woman returned and asked that no more pictures be allowed. Having already taken their share, no one within earshot was disappointed. A man from Manolo came over and asked those in line to write their names down on a pad of paper so it would be easier for Mrs. Parker to sign her autograph.
Speaking with her afterwards, one of the fans described her anticipation, “The air left my lungs, I began to shake and suddenly I wasn’t sure I could remember my name. Life began to move in slow motion and I prayed she would take her time with the person standing in front of her.”
Sarah took her time with each person, smiling sweetly, listening to them and answering their questions.
“I felt light-headed and truly star struck for the first time in my life,” said the fan. “I just love you! was the first thing I could say. My friend James loves her as much as I do and when I told Sarah, she responded in a very “Carrie”-like voice, “Oh! Well, then I must sign one for him too. James is a great name, you know?”
If you’re unaware, Sarah’s son is named James. She made each of her fans feel special and heard which clearly made them all very excited. If you get the chance to see Sarah either at an event or around her NYC home, you too will get “Carrie”d away.
