UPDATE: Program cut citing budget cuts in September 2013.
Are you worried the United States Postal Service (USPS) is cutting its service or going out of business? Do you have loved ones such as a spouse, sibling or child who are Marines deployed in either Iraq or Afghanistan? If so, you can send free letters to them overseas via the internet without leaving your own home!
The MotoMail is a “one-way” service allowing spouses, family and friends to send letters to U.S. Marines serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan. In the spring of 2005, Navy and Army personnel co-located with the Marines were also added to the service.
MotoMail is completely free, private and secure!
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) Postal Service will deliver the letters at USMC locations overseas. The cost of using the MotoMail site is paid by the USMC and no charges fall to the sender or recipient.
MotoMail is powered by SuperLetter.com and is easy to use. The sender is the only party in need of a computer with internet service. The sender fills out a simple registration, including the address of the Marine receiving the letter. After the sender composes a letter and clicks ‘send,’ MotoMail does the rest!
MotoMail will receive your letter electronically, print it out and deliver it to your spouse, family and friends for you, free of all charges. The deployed Marine will receive an actual typed and printed letter from you in a timely manner.
Having a loved one deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan can be emotionally draining. Being able to type out your thoughts and wishes in a letter helps to ease the mental stress.
