Shasta Live!, also known as the Shasta Community Concert Association, held their final concert at the Redding Convention Center last night. The show ended “with a bang” as artist Edgar Cruz promised. Known for his versatile music and multiple genres, the guitarist played a wide assortment of music from “Bohemian Rhapsody” to “La Bamba” and numerous songs in between.
At intermission, Edgar drew two tickets for a drawing held by Shasta Live. The winner received a basket filled with CD’s from each of the artists to perform in the 2011-2012 season. The second drawing was for a solo CD by Mr. Cruz.
With the lease of the Redding Convention Center to Bethel Church beginning on January 1st, Shasta Live! needed a new location for their weeknight concerts and daytime student programs. Starting in 2012, they will begin holding their shows at the Cascade Theatre on South Market Street in Redding. Future concerts for this season include country sensation Billy Dean, R&B artist Sean Jones, and Jim Curry’s Take Me Home: A Tribute to John Denver.
The Fine Arts Enrichment program will remain in full swing at the new venue; however, reservations for the morning concerts are extremely vital. These morning concerts are free for students thanks to patron donations. With the lower number of seats available at the Cascade, the FAE concerts are nearly booked. “Billy Dean is full. And there are just a few seats available for Sean Jones and Jim Curry.” explained Judy Bush who, along with her husband Dave, keeps the Enrichment program organized for students around Shasta County. 788 students and teachers attended the morning concert with Edgar Cruz.
While individual tickets are available for the upcoming shows, only Season membership holders are guaranteed a seat for each concert. Memberships may be purchased at Shasta Live’s website or by calling Membership chairman, James Yarbrough, at 247-7355.
