The Simply You Calendar Project continues to move forward. With the approval of the cover and the work on layout complete, the models are eagerly awaiting the release of the calendar. Pre-print orders are being accepted at a reduced price. Visit the website listed below to check out the special offer.
Throughout the waiting period, however, life goes on!
As mentioned in previous articles, the 12 models represent six cancer survivors and six domestic violence survivors. However, a couple of us have actually experienced both.
Model, Valerie is one of those that has experienced both and survived!
Valerie has many titles. She is a daughter, sister, wife/widow, mother of 4, grandmother of 19 and also a great grandmother of 4. She does stay busy!
Valerie was diagnosed with breast cancer nine years ago and survived. Now, she is approaching the six month mark for having lung cancer. This summer she was hospitalized not just once but twice – this last time was for thirteen days! She praises the Lord for all that she has and prays for a complete recovery.
When asked how she connected with the Simply You Calendar Project, she smiles and relates the story of how her daughter’s co-worker had received an email. Knowing the family’s cancer story she thought of Valerie. Naturally she forwarded the email. And the rest, as the saying goes, is history.
With her daughter’s encouragement, Valerie submitted her application to the project and was hopeful. When chosen, she was excited to be one of the 12!
“Jade Greer at K Staten was an angel,” said Valerie after visiting the boutique in Baltimore. “I thoroughly enjoyed arriving at the boutique and having the opportunity to try on some fabulous dresses. I tried on a beautiful dress that was just perfect as will be seen on the calendar. Once the dress was chosen, I was eager to meet the other eleven ladies to see their outfits!”
At the Baltimore photo shoot, Valerie’s daughter, Vetrice Barry, came too. Vetrice is a Mary Kay representative. She graciously did her mother’s make-up, giving her that extra special glow – that too will be seen on the calendar!
